The community of Corrales doesn’t have an overabundance of traditional parks, however, being a community within the greater Albuquerque area means the opportunity to get outdoors is never far away. Residents will find La Entrada Park at the northwest corner of Corrales and La Entrada. Here, there is children’s play equipment and a community pool with open and lap swim hours. Nearby, Arroyo de Deportes Park and Chamisa Hills Country Club to the west offer even more outdoor areas for Corrales residents.
The Corrales Society of Artists hosts a variety of annual events in the community. The Corrales Holiday Art Fest gives local artists a chance to display their work, and residents can view fine art, quilts, sculptures and more at Art in the Park, an annual event that takes place on dates during May until September each year. The City of Corrales also hosts ongoing events like a weekly farmer’s market. More information and a calendar of events are available here: http://www.corrales-nm.org/event-calendar.html.
Casa San Ysidro: The Gutie/Minge House is operated by the Albuquerque Museum in Corrales. The historic home features a variety of items ranging from early Spanish-Colonial to 19th-century Victorian styles, and is a popular Corrales attraction. Chef Jane Butel has set-up her cooking school in Corrales, and invites visitors into her home to cook specialities of the southwest for weeklong stints at a time. Corrales has various shops and restaurants that draw clients from around the metropolitan area. Most of the restaurants are independent, unlike other parts of Albuquerque where chain restaurants reign supreme.
The Village of Corrales was incorporated on September 17, 1971, however, prehistoric evidence suggests that the Corrales Valley was occupied as early as 500 A.D. While the greater metropolitan population is quite large today, Corrales strives to remain a rural community. The community is characterized by broad green pastures and orchards, and a variety of livestock.
